Bad news, ladies. The private sale totally cleaned the Proenza Schouler sale out of its most coveted items: Samples and sought-after PS1 bag styles. Oh, and shoes, too. However, die-hard fans still lined up early and dove right into the remains of the sale, which offers discounts on past season clothing and accessories.
Just quickly re the bag situation: As of 9:15am, there were two of those super structured laptop PS1 briefcase bags priced at $550 and a smattering of mini sac bags (in camel with hot pink lining and zebra print) priced at $330 remaining.
That said, there are a few basic bargains to be found. If you're desperate for some Proenza Schouler but have minimal funds, there are $25 cap sleeve tissue tees. We saw a couple $150 hammered silk dresses in blueberry and a few $30 wool pants toward the back; there is also a rack of basic black trousers for $165. Look out the royal blue and black bouclé coats that seem relatively justifiable for $375.
Also in the $100ish range are long sleeve merino sweaters ($120), silk waffle tanks ($120), a rainbow of tie-dye tees ($100), tie-dye tanks ($55) and knit, jewel-toned, bow-tie tanks ($115).
For those with deeper wallets or aspirational-browsing tendencies, there are 50's-style yellow and black plaid brocade frocks ($490), a plush jet black shaggy fur cropped jacket ($1710), soft grey suede jeggings ($390) and our fave, a drop dead sexy black leather and pleated mini-skirted cocktail dress ($1170).
A word of note: Somehow the middle of the room became the communal fitting area, so the racks in the center are for girls trying clothes—they're not sample racks. We learned this the hard way when a mother guarding her daughter's stash smacked our hand away when we went to check a price tag. That said, there are no fitting rooms. Cash and credit are accepted. Most everything is out on the sparsely laid out floor, although a staffer did say that they might bring in some remaining samples later in the day. All in all, this sale is probably for truly obsessed fans only.
