Honey in the Rough Pop-Up: Still Really Pretty, Still Kind of Expensive

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Looks like the space that housed the short-lived Everybody's Going To Heaven boutique has a temporary occupant: The Honey in the Rough pop-up sale offering 50% to 70% off of end-of-season goods. The sale opened a few minutes late, leaving a small crowd of avid shoppers anxiously waiting at the door. The Lower East Side boutique is a downtown favorite known for its stable of coveted-label frocks that are, well, just as pricey as they are lovely. As we usually tend to browse in the store as opposed to purchase, we were excited to see what the pop-up sale had in store.

The sale is probably a boon for Honey in the Rough's already loyal shoppers (we saw a few excitedly walk in) and people diligently saving up for a Tsumori Chisato dress, but the discounted-end prices are still a tad wallet-denting. That doesn't mean that there isn't a ton of eye candy though.

Highlights on the racks include two Herchcovitch;Alexandre frocks: a lone pink and red color block one with tulle shoulder panels ($180 from $360) and a black frock with cerulean blue and violet embroidered flowers ($195 from $565). There are a bunch of Thread Social pieces including a feminine herringbone jacket dress ($247 from $495) and a sleeveless mini-dress in a wine hue with red silk piping ($222 from $445). We also saw a few United Bamboo styles and admired an elegant green and silver brocade frock ($239 from $795) and a chocolate brown wrap dress with two-tone polka dots ($162 from $540).

Other labels spotted: i love binetti (peacock dress with flowing panels $130 from $260), Peter Jenson (black and cream plaid puff sleeve frock $95 from $315), Surface to Air (silver velvet party-dress $204 from $690), Samantha Pleet (black corduroy bib dress $115 from $385), Mociun (a few ikat mini-frocks $222 from $445) and Madison Marcus (a white and black, star-print, belted number $165 from $335).

There are also some beauty products on sale. We liked the super fun hues of the Uslu Airlines nail polishes marked down to $22 from $32. Some Besame makeup products are also on sale, like the dusting powder ($16 from $32) and the soufflé foundation ($13 from $26).

Everything is out on the floor and sizes really just vary as it's all end-of-season stock (and not samples as the pop-up is billed). There are fitting rooms available and cash and credit are accepted. Sadly, owner Ashley confirmed that will not be marking the dresses down any further, but we suppose we can always hope.
