Knowing that three new shoe stores in Soho is hardly enough to keep shoppers happy, ASH Footwear is readying their first US shop: A flagship store at 44 Mercer Street, just north of Grand (in a new-ish building with a Harry Potter view).
British Italy-based ASH has signed a 10-year lease, bypassing available Bleecker Street spaces (too small) and opting instead for 6,800 square feet on two floors strategically situated between Scoop to the north and Vivienne Tam to the south.
The shop, filled with boots and bags in Italian leather for that European edge, will be just a short stroll from the new Alexander Wang shop, opening soon-ish down on the corner at 103 Grand. Across the street are both the Ed Hardy emporium and everyone's favorite little shop of pleasures, Babeland. ASH aims to do something "on a grander scale" here on Mercer Street with plans to open up shop this winter.
