Last night we hit Original Penguin's Soho shop for a little party celebrating GQ's Top Picks from the line's fall collections. We weren't the only ones—a pretty lax door policy had the place jammed with tons and tons of randoms, and they were all loving the sliders and Swedish meatballs in a major way.
Ryan Reynolds and his blank stare oversaw the pandemonium from a series of GQ cover blow-ups while servers in red and royal blue Penguin polos distributed nibbles, martinis and an impressive beer selection to a soundtrack of mod and old school hip-hop. The front end of the store was devoted to GQ's faves: A couple of breezy plaid wovens, a shawl-collared cardigan, a shrunken glen plaid blazer.
Our picks included a series of fantastic leather and buffalo plaid waxed canvas bags, a great pair of brown wingtips (only $135!), various piping-trimmed and patterned tuxedo jackets, and a woolly bomber.
Sales were brisk but bar service was not. So we made the rounds and made our exit as more and more folks ranging from straight-up suits to fashion-faux-hawk-crazies poured on in. Sliders are a powerful thing.
