The few women on Business Insider's list of New York's 100 coolest people in tech mostly work in fashion. Does this say something negative about the way women in tech get shunted into stereotypically girlie roles, or does it say something positive about the innovative fashion projects currently happening in NYC? The best answer is probably something like "A little of both, and here's a well-thought out explanation of the situation based on trustworthy statistics and independent research." But since that sounds awfully time-consuming, let's just say congrats to Susan Lyne of Gilt, Jennifer Hyman and Jennifer Fleiss of Rent the Runway, and Brooke Moreland and Ashley Granata of Fashism, all of whom are undeniably successful women running cool online businesses.
