The Fifth Precinct has taken to putting up signs at the Bowery Whole Foods warning people to keep an eye on their handbags and other valuables. It's not like Whole Foods is a festering den of crime—it's just that people get lulled into a false sense of security, much like at Trader Joe's in Brooklyn, where shoppers are constantly learning the hard way that you can't leave your wallet in your grocery cart if you want it to be there when you return. Other tips for city living: Don't try to pet the rats, and please don't get into a van with a stranger just because he offers you candy.
