The signage for the new Converse store at 560 Broadway in the heart of the Soho mall has gone up, and guys are already waiting out front to get some Jack Purcells. This is but one of many new shoe options popping up in Soho, where footwear of all sorts, from flat footed to high-heeled, can be found.
Converse is going into a spot just south of Prince, slotted between Dean & Deluca and H&M, where Ann Taylor struggled and then Escada Sport hit the wall before it even opened. But shoes rule down this way, especially when priced right. The new Converse emporium, covering 7000 square feet and offering both classics and "Design Your Own" styles, should fit right in. Word is that they'll be ready to sell before the holidays.
