Filene's Basement and Syms' coupling is getting serious and settling down in a new borough: Brooklyn. Preparing to take over the ground floor of 490 Fulton Street on the Fulton Mall, the store won't be open for over a year, but the 40,000 square foot megaland of clearance clothes and accessories is just another one of the additions to the chain-filled locale.
With neighbors like Aeropostale and H&M and floors of Long Island University student housing stacked above, Fulton Mall is turning into what the twelve-year-old version of us would have wanted out of college: co-ed dorms and nonstop access to t-shirts under $20.
We can't help but ask that if Century 21 is coming to the Upper West Side, a second Filene's-Syms is in the works in Midtown and TJ Maxx's are popping up all over the city, will anyone be paying full price for anything anymore? We'll just have to wait to see if the pairing of Filene's and Syms—apologies, FbSY—is worth never paying non-redlined prices anymore.
