Everything is affected by the recession, it seems, even our beloved Store Sidekicks, and the city is about to loose one of its rarest breeds: the bookstore cat.
According to Gothamist, West 18th Street's Skyline Books is on its last legs and will close at the end of this month. Skyline is of course "folding under the pressures of increasing rents, online bookselling, and the city's changing landscape," and yet there's a secondary victim in all this: Linda, the store's resident kitty.
Linda might not be able to come home with Skyline's owner, and now the territorial feline is about to be sent packing, though hopefully not too far. Skyline is looking for another bookstore who will kindly take Linda in as "she's a book store cat, and there just aren't any left, book stores or book store cats."
Although that's not quite true?we found a few bookstore cats in 2009?we know that Linda has a difficult road ahead when it comes to finding a new literary home. Does anyone have an independent bookstore could take her in...or maybe just a giant private library?
