You know who's really excited about the return of big Wall Street bonuses? Retailers. WWD talks to an economics professor who sees great things for luxury stores coming in March: "'I expect watches, high-end men’s suits, fur coats, things like that' to see a bonus boost, he said. 'Families are going to reward themselves once the money is in the bank. The partial restoration of many affluent families’ net worth, given the stock market recovery in ’09, will lead to bigger spending at the Bloomingdale’s and Nordstroms of the world.'" But another retail expert adds, "Will there be frivolous spending? I think not," reassuring us that any Rolex purchases will be done in an entirely sensible manner. [WWD, subscription req'd]
