Abercrombie spin-off Ruehl was supposed to bottle the spirit of Greenwich Village and sell it to twenty- and thirtysomethings, so of course it needed a charming Bleecker Street location. All the charm in the world couldn't save Ruehl when the recession hit, though; Abercrombie shuttered the brand this summer, leaving its 370 Bleecker Street home up for grabs. Now, Coach has announced via plywood that they'll be taking over the space and making it into a men's store. Coach already operates its higher-end "Legacy" store next door, so this move puts them in the same position as Bleecker stalwarts Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and James Perse, all of which have multiple locations on the strip.
