First impressions upon walking into designer Julie Haus's new Soho pop-up shop: The place is huge. Located at 93 Mercer Street, just down the block from the new Rag & Bone store, the pop-up looks like it could fit several trucks' worth of ready-to-wear—trucks and all. Instead, Haus went the minimalist route, decorating the space with the black-and-white photos that inspired her latest collection. Racks of fall/winter '09 merchandise and Haus's new diffusion line, J/J by Julie Haus, are scattered artfully around the room, and a table towards the back holds art books and hydrangeas. It's all very autumnal and moody, except for the rack of bright dresses and jackets from s/s '09, which, in a pleasant bonus, just happen to be 70% off.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Fashion Week pop-up shop without a plan for the night of the 10th, but Haus's might be particularly ambitious. She's showing her spring/summer line in the shop at a private runway show that evening, then immediately turning the space back into a store for the Fashion's Night Out crowds. After that, the pop-up will stay open through Sunday, October 4th.
