Above the Fray: Chocheng's Upper East Side Elegance

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We ventured into Gossip Girl territory for a second time this week, stopping by the Chocheng atelier for their sample sale. When you step down into the beautifully decorated and intimate boutique on quiet 63rd Street, you've fully entered the land of Lily Van der Woodsen. Of course, Lils only pays full price, but not us! The luxury designer is offering up to 70% off a mix of Fall 2008 and Fall 2009 exquisitely detailed jackets, skirts and coats in silk, wool and luxurious velvet. For those looking for the most wallet friendly options, first check in the second section of the store for half a rack of untagged (meaning the items were not marked with a size, so you'll have to try them on to see what fits) jackets for $250 and skirts for $100. There, you'll find a mix of tailored jackets in various prints, colors and fabrics.

Highlights in the main section of the store include the silk tailored smoking jackets in black, red and white (Upper East Side socialites Lucy Sykes Rellie and Tinsley Mortimer are fans) on sale for $426. Even at 70% off, the items are definitely an investment, but just try and not swoon at the lilac velvet and silk lined military jacket with gold buttons ($535.50) and its matching pencil skirt with black piping at $90 (down from $300).

Sizes range from 2 to 10 and the very friendly and informative sales staff make you feel like you're having your own personalized shopping experience. Xoxo!
