You know the economy and unemployment rate is bad when it's kicking American Girl dolls onto the streets. In a brave feat of investigative journalism, the NY Post ventured into American Girl Place to discover the new homeless addition to the cadre of dolls. She's Gwen Thompson, and her backstory involves a deadbeat dad and an unemployed mom. They live in a car, not to be confused with the prairie wagons of the Kirsten doll. She's also friends with the Chrissa doll, who is bullied in school and lives with her grandma. Times might be changing, but the prices don't; each doll is $90. [NY Post]
