Racked Bookshelf: Christian Siriano's Fierce Style

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Need something to read on the subway en route to the next sale? In Racked Bookshelf, we pull new titles in fashion and design to see what's worthy of the printed page.

As the only Project Runway winner to really graduate to the status of sought-after designer, Christian Siriano is charging head-on with personal brand. Starbucks partnered with him for an as-yet-unveiled holiday project, and he's even signed on to create a full couture collection for Uma Thurman in the upcoming movie Eloise In Paris.

Most recently however, he's followed in the footsteps of Project Runway judges Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn by publishing a book. Called "Fierce Style: How To Be Your Most Fabulous Self," the tome is due out during the first week of October. Here's how describes it:

He helps readers discover how to look, feel, and act fierce in everyday life. With tips from some of fashion and Hollywood's biggest names?including Victoria Beckham, Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, and Vanessa Williams?along with gorgeous original sketches by Christian, never-before-heard stories, and behind-the-scenes photos, he tells his journey of developing his own fashion sense and overcoming obstacles to success. Giving advice on creating personal style, sharing tips on building self-confidence, and revealing his own list of fashion dos and don'ts, Christian shows how to use one's unique strengths to get ahead?and go from tickity-tack to totally flawless.

Doesn't that just sound cute and fuzzy-wuzzy? It's perhaps the perfect Christmas present for your mom who's addicted to following every season of Project Runway, or maybe it's just a reason to get yourself up to Columbus Circle.

After the book's debut, Christian will embark on a book tour. One of the first stops is the Borders in the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle on October 7 at 7pm. We recommend you practice saying "Fierce" with a slight lisp.
