Williamsburg's first Duane Reade opens in Northside Piers this Saturday, and Gothamist wonders what kind of effect it will have on beloved local institution Kings Pharmacy. On the one hand, Duane Reade is a New York juggernaut moving into a location with a built-in customer base. On the other hand, Kings has the advantage of historical precedent, plus it's near the L train. We don't see people making the trek to the waterfront for cotton balls and Method hand soap when there's a place to get those things right on Bedford. Kings will probably be just fine.
