Hangover Observations: A Target House Party, Anna Sui-Style

New, 1 comment

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

For the next three days, Target invites you into their hidden Soho mansion, a tucked-away four stories of fun completely inspired by the designs of Anna Sui, and of course stocked with racks and racks of her new capsule collection for the mass retailer.

Because Target always has the best canapes, we hit up the preview party last night, and have to say that Target went all out this time. If you thought the McQueen warehouse was elaborate last season, then wait until you see the mirrored walls, the stuffed peacocks, the maze of small tiled stairwells, and the chandeliers?oh, the chandeliers! Apparently this used to be someone's actual residence, complete with pool and shooting range.

Although the cropped leather jacket was gone almost immediately after they opened the doors (don't worry, it'll probably be back today), we're sure they had a few on reserve for the special guests of the evening: Blake Lively, Michelle Trachtenberg, Penn Badgley, and Jessica Szohr. That's right; the cast of Gossip Girl was out in half-full effect.

We can report that Szohr, who plays Vanessa in the show, was even wearing the odd, triple-tie top, albeit backwards (good idea). Too bad she startled us by exiting her town car directly in front of us, and was too quickly inside before we could snap a picture to prove it.

Nonetheless, we did catch up with Anna Sui walking the black carpet outside, and Lynn Yaeger (still freelancing for NY Mag?) and Mickey Boardman of Paper waiting in line to pay at the registers.

Like them, we did end up buying a few things: the blue dress, a Blair dress, and a silk jumper we can't locate a good picture of. Overall, we're pretty happy with the quality and especially with the fit, unless you are blessed with actual breasts and covet one of the Jenny-inspired looks.

Shopping or not, it's a place to check out; stop by before they close Saturday night, however!
