Store Sidekicks: Swatch at Mood Fabrics

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

This is Store Sidekicks, an end-of-the-week feature where we profile the fuzzy wuzzy creatures that inhabit shops across the city. If you'd like to nominate your favorite store animal, drop us a line at tips@racked.com.

Mood Fabrics has become a household name from being featured on Project Runway, but during our visit, we weren't looking for materials that would impress Tim Gunn. Instead, our attention was directed towards the black and white Boston terrier racing around the sales floor, who stopped every now and then to stare up at customers. The dog, aptly named Swatch, is owned by manager Eric, who was happy to show us how well-trained he is. Swatch responds to his owner's whistles, "sits" the first time around, and tilts his head in a cute pose on command (see photographic evidence above.)

Despite the workout we witnessed, Swatch has been known to sleep half of the day as well. We're told that the two-year-old's favorite customers are children, the younger, the better. He's been featured on Project Runway twice already, and we wouldn't be surprised if he was one of the reasons that Heidi keeps coming back.—Daniella Lavian
