Chronicler of all things LES, blog BoweryBoogie, breaks the news that longstanding LES boutique Shop has closed. "The store abruptly shuttered after business hours on Sunday night...Needless to say, it was a somber scene, with three employees moving out the furniture and packing up the remaining garments." Their website is still operational, but the phone to the store has already been disconnected.
About a year ago, Shop relocated from the busy corner of Stanton and Ludlow to a quieter location on Orchard Street between Delancey and Broome. There were signs that the store was struggling in its new home. We had noticed a recent uptick in sale announcements, and every time we strolled by the place was devoid of customers. Still, the boutique's abrupt shuttering is shocking: Shop was a retail presence in the neighborhood for more than ten years.
