Now Open: Valley, Portia & Manny Double Up in Nolita

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Tucked underneath the scaffolding on Elizabeth Street between Spring and Prince, you'll find salon Valley and its new in-store counterpart, Portia & Manny. Both are new to the space: Valley Salon was previously on the LES, and Portia & Manny's line, then called Sweet Tater, was close by on Mulberry Street. Together, they pack a one-two punch: Holistic facials and manicures alongside vintage clothing.

Valley specializes in complicated 3-D nail masterpieces, but they also features a special "hard wax" technique which promises to make your waxing experience virtually painless. As for Portia & Manny, they carry one-of-a-kind dresses and flowing boho tops for prices in the $100-$200 range. Not a bad reincarnation for the space that used to house departed shoe line Hollywould.—Daniella Lavian
