This is Store Sidekicks, a new Friday feature where we profile the fuzzy wuzzy creatures that inhabit shops across the city. If you'd like to nominate your favorite store animal, drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fuzzy wuzzy in-store pets aren't just for Chelsea and Williamsburg, and in fact a recommendation pointed us to Silver Lining Opticians at 100 Thompson Street in Soho, otherwise known as the daytime home of two Maltese/Shih Tzus, or Shihteses.
The most familiar of the two faces is Henri, a five-year-old ball of energy who has some serious opinions about what pair of Persols frame your face best. Brand new to the store is Beatrice, a 4-month-old puppy that belongs to Jordan's girlfriend. Nonetheless, you'll find Beatrice alongside Silver Lining's largest unused vintage eyewear collection in New York.
The only thing newer to the store than Beatrice are perhaps the Ditas in bone, as Silver Lining is the first store in New York to receive this coveted color. Hear that, Lady Gaga?
