Jen Kao's not a household name, but critics did love the young designer's beautiful presentation last Fashion Week. Now shoppers have a chance to buy Kao's futuristic pieces at discounted prices. We stopped by her sample sale in the Garment District yesterday evening, and found lots that we liked. Unfortunately, the high-end label is still costly, even at wholesale. Prices ranged from $75 to upwards of $700. On the lower end, we spotted plenty of filmy racerback tanks for $90, and some tees for $130; Kao's structured strapless dresses, sheer knits and lightweight jumpers were priced in the $300 to $400 range. The sale was rather quiet when we stopped by, allowing for peaceful browsing and plenty of space to deliberate in the airy fitting room (complete with two mirrors) set up behind the racks.
