Because saying "Number 5" really means only one thing in the world of fashion, Saks Fifth Avenue is honoring this fifth day of the fifth month not by filling their windows full of Cinco de Mayo crepe paper, but by stocking them with bottles big and small of Chanel No. 5.
All along the Fifth Avenue side of the store, there are "Ave. Chanel No. 5" signs, windows displaying the summer goods, and even Chanel representatives handing out vouchers for a deluxe fragrance sample.
Initially we were skeptical of this offer, but lo and behold: we were handed a free 0.2 fl oz fancy glass vial of Chanel No.5 Eau Premiere at the fragrance counter inside. It's not much, but it's far better than what we expected walking by on this rainy afternoon.
According to the voucher, the Chanel display will continue through May 10, but the coveted little bottles are only while supplies last. In the meantime, we recommend pausing in front of the windows for a bit to catch snippets of the Audrey Tautou film for Chanel, Train de Nuit.
