Online sample sale behemoth Gilt Groupe unloaded a ton of merchandise in Noho this week for another big warehouse sale, which kicked off this morning in the Samples for (eco)mpassion space on Great Jones Street. The early reviews are mixed, with Racked commenters grumbling about pricing and selection, and blogger Cheryl Shops asserting that it's worth a drop-by if you have time to really look.
There are several racks of Malo and Valentino; lots of Gryson bags (prices top out at $200 for the big ones); quite a few Ali Ro and Lauren Moffatt dresses; some White + Warren sweaters; and a bunch of jeans that I think were Rich & Skinny, but can't quite say for sure. A little digging, however, unearthed several treasures: a great studded DVF dress, in size 8; a huge studded Be&D Garbo bag (it was $400, I believe); two Thakoon dresses, both in size 4; and several Marc by Marc Jacobs black leather flight bags (which were not listed on the price list, but I think I overheard the register guy say they were $130).Our commenters are not nearly positive, with one writing: "As one person said overpriced (3x as much as last time) and ugly clothes! Mostly high-end Valentino that didn't sell on Gilt and ugly Lauren Moffat dresses for $130. One Jill Stuart dress for $190 that sold last time for $30. No Development or other fun dresses from last time- major disappointment!" Things might look up—in a Tweet (now deleted), host Samples for (eco)mpassion said they had 72 boxes of merchandise to unpack. So we assume they'll be restocking.
