Lineblogging: H&M Makes 'Em Wait for M.Willy

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The second set of Matthew Williamson's collaboration with H&M was due to arrive at the flagship store on Fifth Avenue at 9am today, but 45 minutes after the doors should have swung open, shoppers are still milling around in the rain. Why? Because the store is still setting up.

Our correspondent on the scene reports a line about as long as last time, and chaos inside the shop. There's clearly a ton of merchandise (it takes up not just the area between the elevators, but the whole first floor) but it's still not organized in any coherent fashion. Store employees are scarce, but we hear the place will open at 10am, and that it's worth the wait—there are pieces only the flagship will have, and they'll only have 25 of each.
