Times Square Gets De-Virginized

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

A tipster sent in this photo set of Times Square's empty Virgin Megastore, which was nearly cleaned out last night when he stopped by. Even spookier is Lost City's collection of shots from the "surreal retail cemetery" operating out of the basement in the store's last days, where armies of headless t-shirt mannequins sat next to $5 Jack Daniels bottles filled with a strange non-alcoholic brown liquid. But the spookiest thing of all: The Times Square location has utterly disappeared from the Virgin website. It's really gone, folks.
