Another Nolita Retailer, Character, Closes

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Tourist dollars seem to be sustaining the Soho retail scene, but only a few blocks east, Nolita is struggling. A host of neighborhood stores have recently closed or are in the process of shuttering, including Cadeau Maternity, Sweet Tater, Nancy Koltes at Home and I Heart, who sent out a teary goodbye email to customers yesterday.

Well, add another one to the list. Quirky design shop Character, located right next to Cafe Habana at 19 Prince Street, is having an everything must go closing sale until 7pm this Sunday, April 26th. Merchandise, like Alessi barware, George Nelson clocks, Tintin posters and Harry Allen pieces, is marked 50 to 60% off. They've got to clean the place out, so prices might dip even lower towards the very end.
