M Willy for H&M: Going, Going, Gone

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The crowds for this morning's Matthew Williamson for H&M launch may not have approached CDG-levels, but you'd never know it from what was left over at the chain's flagship store a mere hour after the doors opened. All of the heavily-advertised pieces—the long ruffled dress, the leather jacket, the sequined dress, the blue blazer and the big studded belt—were gone, leaving only a few sad racks full of tanks, tees and cardigans. At the checkout, we spotted three ladies with about eight shopping bags full of the collection between them. Maybe they were eBay sellers, maybe they were Matthew Williamson's biggest fans, or maybe they just wanted to buy up THE dress so no one else can.
