Time Out's Shopping Issue Focuses on the Indies

Orchard Corset on the LES

Time Out's 2009 shopping guide hits newsstands today, covering many retailers that other, tonier shopping tomes aren't even aware exist. It's exhaustive, and focused on the little guy—they run down the best indie boutiques in neighborhoods like the LES, the East and West Villages, Fidi and Jersey City. There are also helpful pieces on the best indie apothecaries, book stores, and sneaker shops. It's hard to avoid the chains, though, and they do appear in the article on spots to hit for the best unisex basics (you can guess who made that list).
