The Bowery District

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Today, WWD has an odd neighborhood piece about the boutiquification of the Bowery where they lump LES boutiques like Tucker in with on-the-Bowery shops like Blue & Cream. They seem to be a little geographically confused; Tucker is a ten to fifteen minute walk from the Bowery. Anyway, they speak with Racked fascination Jeff Goldstein, owner of Blue & Cream, about the Bowery's development: "'These [customers] aren’t corporate suits,' Goldstein said. 'It’s an international crowd. The people living in the Avalon developments are paying a hefty premium to live in the neighborhood. By choosing to live down here, they’re saying that they have style.'” And that's saying something. [WWD, subscription req]
