Yesterday when WWD hinted at the trouble shaking the foundations of Vera Wang Lavender Label's existence, our mind started reeling at the possibilities for the brand's huge sample sale today. In a few respects, our hopes for bargains and selection came through, but we were surprisingly disappointed in the quality of the gowns.

Nonetheless, this is a massive Vera Wang sale, albeit of her cheaper contemporary label, and $189 for a gown can't be true unless there is something behind the rumors of its closure.

If you're a Vera Wang fan, in need of a spring party dress, or simply desire to add a label to your closet which may soon cease to exist, then this is the sale for you. Otherwise, you'd do well to wait for what may be further discounts and Vera Wang Lav Label sales if they do close out.

In terms of the actual stock on hand in this space that looks like the sample sale time forgot, there's a bounty of everything in sizes 2-14. Robin's egg blue lacy tea dresses, golden jacquard skirt suit sets and metallic columnar silk cocktail sheaths dominate the space, but the delicacy apparent in the rarer items (like black lace blouses and Chanel-ish separates) could easily tempt you into a few purchases.

It is only a pity that the dress (not gown) prices are a tad high at $99, now that we know about the troubles in the company. They should be desperate to get unload the truckfulls into the arms of eager Vera fans, but then the sample sale dealers have to make their money too.
