Storecasting: Soho To No Longer Be Free People-free

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

To our amazement, Soho has successfully staved off the arrival of Urban Outfitters' hippy younger sister, Free People. That is, until we spotted the signage going up in an empty storefront at Spring and Mercer Streets, directly across from Ben Sherman.

According to their website, Free People Soho will be "opening in early April!" This could be a godsend for a few down-and-out retail associates, as Free Peeps has already got their employment sign on the window, possibly in anticipation of welcoming some Anthropologie or Urban Associates back into the fold. This will be Free People's third NYC store, or fourth if you count the one in Brooklyn, and we doubt it will be the final.
