RackedWire: A Gym Gets Stripped in Midtown; Silent Auction at Housing Works Tribeca

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

MIDTOWN—Looks like the Powerhouse gym at 50 East 42nd Street is powering down. A tipster sends in the shot at right with this note: "Literally the gym equipment is being dragged out for a quick sale...Witnessed guys taking out flat panel TVs." [Racked Inbox]

TRIBECA—The latest Housing Works location opens this Saturday, March 7, with a silent auction featuring goods from New York celebrities. The list of donors includes Susan Sarandon, several Real Housewives, Brook Shields, former mayor Ed Koch, and Chloe Sevigny, who gave the charity a fridge and a Dolce and Gabbana corset. (For more on the items, consult the Observer, where you'll also find a hilariously passive-aggressive quote from Kelly Killoren Bensimon about how virginal her donations are.) Bidding runs from 1pm to 4pm at 72 Warren St. [Housing Works; NYO]
