Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
These are the end times, people. Right now, high above the worker bee pedestrians on Madison Avenue and East 49th Street, the old New York Magazine marquee is being unceremoniously replaced by the Burberry logo.
The coup was brought about by Burberry's purchase of more than just retail space in the renovated building, but also quite a few offices. This is how to get your name in lights off of Broadway: buy office space. Although such lights are no longer allowed on new builds, we're thinking the MetLife megalith is overdue for a refresh (so long as it's not Forever 21).
