Hip barbershops are about to go from a developing trend to a full-fledged fad thanks to Greg Sarway, owner of the midtown salon Spiff for Men. Sarway tells the New York Observer that he plans to open not one, not two, but six new Spiff branches in midtown over the next eighteen months. The paper hints that he's motivated by the "exceedingly favorable market for retail tenants" (landlords being a little desperate for functional renters right now) but only quotes Sarway saying "In this kind of environment, everybody needs to look good." Spiff isn't just for men, by the way—it's men-only, meaning that if a woman shows up, she'll be politely asked to take a stroll around the block.
