The big Gilt Groupe warehouse sale held at Samples for (eco)mpassion in Noho is in its second week of operation. Enticed by an email blast that promised "new arrivals", we dropped by the space last night to do some reconnaissance work. And despite terrible early reviews, we found a lot worth opening up our wallets for.
If you plan to stop by, know that you'll need some time to browse. Prices aren't marked on any of the items, so if you find something you like you have to scan a lengthy list or ask one of the busy sales associates for help. That, and the less than ideal try-on situation (there are two dressing rooms, and both are tiny and communal) were our only complaints with this sale. The pricing wasn't bad: Most of the dresses, tops, skirts and pants we picked up ranged from $20 to $100. Also, there was a ton of merchandise set out, and more laying in boxes waiting to be unpacked. We spotted an abundance of certain labels—Miguelina, Mint, Rachel Roy—and a few quality items from lines like Valentino, Alice Roi, Vivienne Tam and Doo Ri. This is the online sample site's dregs, but at least they're nice dregs.
