Where are the promised pith helmets?! We were under the impression that American Apparel's takeover of the classic Bleecker Street Banana Republic space was supposed to include an ode to the retailer with palm trees and headgear, but we were disappointed.

The city's 20-somethingest American Apparel has officially opened its doors at Bleecker and 6th Avenue, only some blocks south of another store at 373 6th Avenue. While we didn't spy any nods to safari, we did see some workers completing the installation of speckled awnings; an attempt at animal print, maybe? In any case, NYU kids are now covered on all sides by easy access to neon spandex.
