Where womenswear is slipping, designers are looking to menswear as the trend grows to freaking dress nicely. According to WWD, next to focus on the dudes will be Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, who, having just tacked a men's line onto their "The Row" designer label, are now adding the "James" to their Elizabeth and James label.

For its debut in fall 2009, the Elizabeth and James menswear will be about "balancing uptown and downtown" and is influenced by Oliver Twist and The Lost Boys. WWD has more details on the pieces:

A coat features a removable shearling lining 'because dudes want options,' said Mary-Kate. 'And if they buy a great coat, they want to wear it all the time, starting when they buy it.' A pleated flannel trouser is expected to be a signature item and retails for $265.
Look for it to launch at Barneys and Odin, which is odd considering how Barneys doesn't stock the womenswear component of Elizabeth and James. Whatever—just give the people the Olsen Twins dosage they require.
