Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Truly, we don't even want to know how much Ports 1961 has spent on building their US flagship over the last two years. The pile of rubble which has been the Ports construction site since mid-2007 has actually been completed and last week quietly opened, having overshot its original projected opening date of February 2008 by an entire year.
Sitting at the cobblestone corner in MePa where Ninth Avenue ends at Little West 12th Street and Gansevoort, the new Ports boutique has a first floor with a restrained, earthy interior and two other floors which are most likely offices. Currently in stock are the Spring/Summer 2009 pieces we glimpsed at the Ports runway show back in September. If you stop in, be sure to check out the halter top festooned with deflated balloons; that's some Richie Rich flair right there.
