Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In an effort to make reading Racked as much like being in the tents as humanly possible, we'll be liveblogging the shows all week, from the suspense of waiting in line (will the seats be any good?) to the drama of the runway (will anyone stumble?) to the post-show euphoria. This time around: Kittenish, feminine styles from Rebecca Taylor.
Show location: The Salon at Bryant Park
The skinny: Ruffle-edged dresses and blouses; leopard-print skinny pants, shoes and bags; and lightweight brocade skirts with thin sweaters. The color scheme was beige, paired either with wine or light blue.
Celebs spotted: Tori Spelling with her husband, a Kardashian (Khloe, we think?), Erin the be-banged bff of Whitney on The City, and Mena Suvari.
The takeaway: As expected, the clothes were very feminine. We saw a lot of layering, which has been popular elsewhere—but aside from that, we're not sure how the Rebecca Taylor girl will survive the winter. The dresses, skirts and sweaters all looked tissue-thin, though there were a few puffy fur vests and coats.
12:50pm: As previously noted, it's weirdly empty in here. What's going on?
12:57pm: OK, more people are coming in. I feel better about this. In the front row: Andrea Linnett from Lucky and her kid. Otherwise, don't recognize anybody.
1:08pm: Seat that are currently empty include those belonging to Lane Crawford, InStyle, O the Oprah Magazine, Glamour (ton of seats there), Net-a-Porter, Self, Bloomingdales, Saks, Bergdorf, Teen Vogue, WWD, Marie Claire, Neiman Marcus. But people are just starting to sit, so maybe all the occupants of those seats are still standing?
1:12pm: Again, a child is sitting in one of Lucky's front row seats.
1:13pm: Tori Spelling is supposedly coming. And whew: Teen Vogue has arrived.
1:17pm: Tori Spelling has arrived with husband in tow.
1:21pm:: VITAL Tori update: She is wearing a fur coat, a light top, and black leggings. She's doing her thing for the cameras, but before she began to pose, her husband helped her take off the coat and adjust her top. Kind of cute. I also see Erin from the City sitting front row. By the way, the place is nearly full now, thank goodness.
1:29pm: A Kardashian might be front row. Hard to tell from my seat.
1:32pm: It's starting. First few looks involve cute little floral prints, brocade, and thin sweaters.
1:33pm: Beauty: Tons of blue around the eyes, hair pulled up into buns on top of the models' foreheads. Lots of blues and teals in the clothes, too, including some sparkly blue sequins (or are they studs? Hard to tell.)
1:35pm: OK, I'm not feeling this. Animal print leggings, skirts. And the models are noticeably braless.
1:37pm: And here comes the ubiquitous shaggy fur coat. Why are the pants all so high-waisted and slouchy? They look cute on the models, but will mortals wear them?
1:38pm: Everything is either ruffled or rumpled. Or both.
1:40pm: Also spangled. Forgot to mention spangled. Several pieces are done in this sheer white material with more of those stud/sequin things. The models' blue tights show through underneath.
1:41pm: We have nipple! And...it's over.
