Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In an effort to make reading Racked as much like being in the tents as humanly possible, we'll be liveblogging the shows all week, from the suspense of waiting in line (will the seats be any good?) to the drama of the runway (will anyone stumble?) to the post-show euphoria. This time around: BCBG designer Max Azria's upscale line, Max Azria.
Show location: The Tent at Bryant Park
The skinny: Max Azria's signature collection usually brings out the starlets along with great cocktail dresses; this time, not so much in either department.
Celebs spotted: Egh. We are underwhelmed with Whitney Port and Mark Indelicato of Ugly Betty as the only two semi-celebs spotted. If Nastia Liukin was here, we sure didn't see enough flashbulbs to confirm it.
The takeaway: Although all of the looks were body conscious and therefore perfectly wearable, the vibe was dark and drapey, continuing the trend of pleather-looking leggings. These looks closely mirrored his BCBG collection, but of course at higher pricepoints.
6:10pm: I'm waiting to get in to the show. Whitney Port just walked by me with two friends in tow.
6:15pm: A lot of really old people here. Like, so old they can barely walk.
6:18pm: Just saw a woman in the Mondrian-inspired Louboutins. And people with Barneys Warehouse Sale bags.
6:26pm: The runway here is wood, just like the one that made all the models topple at Hervé Léger. Don't see any celebs yet. There are front row seats reserved for French Vogue, which has not arrived.
6:28pm: I'm assuming that Nastia Liukin will be here, but not seeing any flashbulbs.
6:30pm: The swag is two pieces of chocolate.
6:31pm: And we're starting!
6:32pm: First look is very bondage-y. Seriously wide, sharp shoulders.
6:33pm: So far, all black and very detailed, like a strapless dress layered over an embellished sheer black turtleneck.
6:34pm: Jewel tones of blue and green. And more sheer black turtlenecks.
6:35pm: So many turtlenecks. The future is conservative.
6:35pm: A long eggplant dress layered over—you guessed it—a black turtleneck. These girls are all covered up, they are also wearing leggings under the dresses. Prepping for another cold winter, Max?
6:36pm: Nipples! Seen through a long, sheer lacy black dress.
6:38pm: Mustard dress, with black lace turtleneck underneath, paired with black leggings.
6:40pm: Black, black, bla....sorry, fell asleep.
6:41pm: Now showing a lot of long, flowy gowns (over turtlenecks and leggings). Some sparkly beaded embellishment.
6:42pm: OVER. Models walk, the audience claps. Despite the dangerous, shiny wood runway, there were no causalities at this one.
