Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In an effort to make reading Racked as much like being in the tents as humanly possible, we'll be liveblogging the shows all week, from the suspense of waiting in line (will the seats be any good?) to the drama of the runway (will anyone stumble?) to the post-show euphoria. This time around: sophisticated looks by the ever-youthful Cynthia Rowley.
4:47pm: Have arrived at the Jane Hotel for the show. People outside are protesting the hotel owners for bedbugs and general slumlordism.
4:51pm: Crowd to check in all facing west, directly into the sun. Everyone is totally blinded, making things twice as difficult as usual.
5:04pm Cops show up. Are they here to contain the four-person bedbug protest?
5:24pm: Not much happening right now. We're waiting. The cops left. The protesters are all carrying hilarious signs like, "Are bedbugs the new black?" Must be nice to have a new crowd to protest to.
5:32pm: The line started moving, then stopped. It's COLD out here.
5:36pm: Oh no. Guy just came out and said there's no more room. It's already started. They let four people go watch from the door. About 20 of us were shut out.
