Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In an effort to make reading Racked as much like being in the tents as humanly possible, we'll be liveblogging the shows all week, from the suspense of waiting in line (will the seats be any good?) to the drama of the runway (will anyone stumble?) to the post-show euphoria. This time around: charity event and FW kickoff show The Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection.
Show location: The Tent at Bryant Park
The skinny: Designers dress celebrities in red to promote awareness of heart health
Celebs spotted: Just a wee Christian Siriano—plus all the ladies on the runway.
The takeaway: Exercise daily. Also, Valerie Bertinelli looks awesome.
10:08am: We're in. There's a red runway and pink spotlights.
10:10am: Lots of people wearing red. Women in line behind us were discussing some AHA study—seems like there are a bunch of non-fashion heart-health people here.
10:13am: Spotted: Christian Siriano, looking teeny in the front row.
10:17am: Gift bag report: notebook, pamphlet on health, giant first-aid kit with Tylenol, hand lotion, other drug store items.
10:27am: Spotted: Yuli Ziv, the one trying to start a network of fashion bloggers, with a fur-clad stylist boy.
10:39am: It's starting. Finally. Tim Gunn!
10:40am: Tim Gunn is talking about how to prevent heart disease, explaining the red dress symbolism. Says he's breathless because there are so many stars backstage. "Last year my own adorable Heidi Klum strutted her stuff in the show." Awww! Tim Gunn is so cute. But he just made a lame "make it work" joke.
10:42am: First woman out: Amanda Bynes in a micro-mini walking to "Single Ladies". Tone it down girl!
10:43am: Next up is Jenny Garth in a pretty flowing red gown. And now Tori Spelling! She almost tripped. She's wearing a really puffy number.
10:44am: Vivica Fox wearing a slinky, sparkly dress. She knows how to work a runway.
10:45am: Daisy Fuentes in strapless. She's not doing anything over-the-top.
10:46am: Guess Michelle Obama didn't make it.
10:48am: All the songs they're playing are about hearts. Someone I don't recognize Lynda Carter comes down the runway lipsynching the "when you're good to momma" song from Chicago. Lady, this is a runway show, not karaoke!
10:51am: Valerie Bertinelli just sashayed down the runway. Photog next to me, "damn she looks good."
10:53am: They made Patricia Arquette wear a really unflattering, overly-ruched dress. For shame.
10:55am: Mom from Malcolm in the Middle. She looks good cleaned up. Followed by Susan Lucci, soap star.
10:57am: Crowd loves every minute of it. Especially Katie Couric.
11:00am: Whew. Over.
