Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In an effort to make reading Racked as much like being in the tents as humanly possible, we'll be liveblogging the shows all week, from the suspense of waiting in line (will the seats be any good?) to the drama of the runway (will anyone stumble?) to the post-show euphoria. This time around: downtown prep from Rag & Bone.
Show location: Offsite at Cedar Lake, West 26th Street and 11th Ave
The skinny: The looks were much like the crowd: black and grey and tailored with a Japanese sensibility. There were obis and tailcoats and school boy outfits and pinstriped suits and little black dresses for women.
Celebs spotted: Rachel Zoe brought both assistants and a camera crew, and ended up sitting a few seats away from Jimmy Fallon. Also spotted was Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, the Sartorialist and Genevieve Jones fully making out with a dude for the cameras.
The takeaway: Very nineteenth century New York Sunday best meets Japanese and Comme des Garcons. We loved it to no end.
5:00pm: Outside the show. The Sartorialist is here! I think Jimmy Fallon may be here as well. Yep, is totally him.
5:05pm: Rachel Zoe and her assistant Taylor are here. Okay, this is going to be a major show.
5:11pm: I see Lynn Yaeger. Can't enter main area yet—they need a bigger space!
5:27pm: Gift bags are lacking. Only contain stupid face wipes. Think mine has been robbed. Crowd is in tones of black, gray and khaki.
5:31pm: Starting! The looks are very schoolboy, with lots of flouncy pants.
5:37pm: Now seeing tailcoats and women's suits.
5:39pm: Thom Yorke rumor may have been just a rumor. Don't see him. Whoever is DJing does love the bass.
5:40pm: It's over. Struggling to get out.
5:47pm: Zoe has her film crew.
5:48pm: There's a boy here totally decked out in Comme.
