Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In an effort to make reading Racked as much like being in the tents as humanly possible, we'll be liveblogging the shows all week, from the suspense of waiting in line (will the seats be any good?) to the drama of the runway (will anyone stumble?) to the post-show euphoria. This time around: Wearable prints from Nicole Miller.
Show location: The Salon at Bryant Park
The skinny: Surprisingly modern, with some asymmetrical looks and lots of black, tight mini-dresses. Black dominated, but was broken up with pops of electric blue, maroon and orange.
Celebs spotted: The ridiculously skinny Katrina Bowden from 30 Rock (aka the blond who looks kinda like Christine Taylor), Daisy Fuentes in a strapless number, Bai Ling (we think).
The takeaway: Tight cocktail dresses for the youngsters, nipped in jackets and skirts for older ladies. A bit tame, a bit safe.
6:00pm: I'm inside, sitting two rows behind all of Teen Vogue. There are two blond celebs in the front, one of whom might be Katrina Bowden, the assistant on 30 Rock. Also spotted: Fashion Week regular Lauren Ezersky, sitting with someone who has had so much plastic surgery its ridiculous.
6:11pm: Daisy Fuentes is sitting front row near the entrance. I think she might be wearing her red dress from the show today, but it's hard to tell.
6:12pm: OK, Daisy is definitely in purple strapless. Also, just saw Mr. Mickey from Paper in the front row.
6:20pm: It's packed in here.
6:24pm: Is that Candace Bushnell in Hervé Légér? Hard to tell.
6:31pm: They are clearing the runway. Brace.
6:38pm: We're seeing graphic black-and-white prints and lots of both black tights and tights-as-pants. Also lots of small pops of color like at Duckie Brown.
6:39pm: The black-and-white geometric prints have given way to black on black. Also gray. Cheery! Actually, she's doing this thing with layered, almost leaf-like fabric that's kind of nice.
6:42pm: Beauty: The models all have electric blue eyelids. Hair is center parted and stick-straight, but in general these girls look less heroin chic than what we've seen elsewhere.
6:44pm: Starting to see some blue that matches the eyeshadow. Speaking of Duckie Brown: They had big scarves, Nicole Miller has the female version with giant furry collars. Dresses are short—very body conscious.
6:45pm: And it's over. Just noticed Fern Mallis in the front row. Also, first Kate Lanphear sighting of Fashion Week!
