Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Businesses that are doing well during the recession include Wal-Mart, McDonald's (now a Fashion Week sponsor!) and clothing resale shops like Housing Works, who today announced that they are opening their eighth New York City store in Tribeca at the end of February. The chainlet, whose proceeds go to programs that assist New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS, has secured a space at 72 Warren Street between West Broadway and Greenwich Streets. The shop will house a carefully-curated mix of gently-used items, and will also serve as a donations point for locals.
