A soggy December afternoon could not keep fans of Helmut Lang's minimalist rocker chic aesthetic away from the label's sample sale, which offers 60% off womenswear. The prices are not bargain bin, but if you're looking to make an investment for the line's grungy glamorous and tremendously versatile pieces, this is your sale.

Sixty five dollars ($65) may be a bit much for a t-shirt (even if the long sleeve tissue tees are super soft and sexy with a low scoop back), but if you're willing to make the investment, the leather jackets (discounted to $475 and originally retailing at $1,300+) are a strong contender. The black asymmetric zip-front motorcycle jacket is sexy and sleek, yet simple and elegant, and the similarly styled pale gray number with ribbed stretch panels fit like a glove. For more budget-friendly options, there is a corduroy version of the leather jacket in pale grey for $150. Also check out the monochromatic rainbow of skinny denim—pale gray to black, distressed, motorcross style knees and more for $95 a pair (sizes 25 to 31).

All sweaters are $135 each. From the classic slouchy pale gray cardie to the thick knit button front cardigan with knit cord trim, all are innovative layering pieces. Also noteworthy is a sexy and fun draped neck mini LBD with an edgy zipper belt for $140 (originally $470).

There are two sample racks, in the back, with prices ranging from $15 to $45, but the items are pretty picked over. There are also two racks of damaged leather skinny pants for $150 each. It's hard to tell what the damage is, so it's best to ask the polite and friendly staffers. Honestly, the pants look hot on the rack, but with the super skinny cut and elastic waistband, they're seriously threatening to generate a muffin top. If you're willing to take the risk, however, the non-damaged leather pants are $350,

There is a curtained fitting area in the back. Sizes range from petite to large for most styles, but most items are already out on the floor, so stock is limited. Cash and credit are accepted. Also, Helmut Lang is participating in the New York Cares Coat Drive, so if you're stopping in, bring a gently worn coat to donate.
