WWD is reporting breaking news that consumer confidence was up for December. According to a research group, people think things will get better in the next six months, and the current Consumer Confidence Index rose to 52.9 this month, up from 50.6 in November, marking the highest level in two years. Group director Lynn Franco says shoppers are more optimistic about business and labor market conditions, but they still don't expect their own income prospects to improve in the short term. Sigh.
