Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

WWD is reporting breaking news that consumer confidence was up for December. According to a research group, people think things will get better in the next six months, and the current Consumer Confidence Index rose to 52.9 this month, up from 50.6 in November, marking the highest level in two years. How are you leaning these days? Optimistic? Pessimistic? Drunk and tired? Do tell. [WWD, subscription required]
