Eloise Lives, Shops at The Plaza

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

When The Plaza converted from a luxury hotel into luxury apartments, it made sure to keep a space open for its most famous resident, and we don't mean Tommy Hilfiger. Eloise, the star of Kay Thompson's famous books with Hilary Knight, has a 2,100-square-foot store that's outfitted in black and white and a million shades of pink an stocked with all kinds of Eloise memorabilia. There is a living room, a library with books and DVDs, and a "fashion room" where visitors can try on costumes. (We have a crushing suspicion they won't be in our size). In the spring, an Eloise beauty salon will open and the store will have Eloise etiquette classes.
