Rent the Runway Run-Through

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The New York Times reviewed designer dress rental website Rent the Runway over the weekend (over a month after Guest of a Guest gave the site's live chat feature a whirl) and the results were, well, ambiguous. The site "encourages people to chase trends instead of finding a look that works for them (and which they can afford), then making it their own." That said, it "couldn't be easier," and writer Ariel Kaminer does the math and admits it is a much better deal than buying. She then alludes to maybe possibly wanting to rent again. Any reader-reviewers out there feel like chiming in? [New York Times, Previously]
